Pontarddulais fire station recently held an open day to raise funds for the Jac Lewis Foundation.
Thankfully, the weather proved to be favourable on the day resulting in superb turnout and a highly successful fun packed experience for all concerned.
Activities included a duck race, fairground rides and a reptile tent. A firm favourite for the younger children was a ‘smoke tent’ where a simulator of what its like to enter a building full of smoke was set up by the team. Donations from local businesses contributed to the raffle prizes and children were given a guided tour of the station and its apparatus.
A particular mention needs to go to the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) who offered free catering on site throughout the day. Visitors were asked to make a charitable donation if they so wished for their catering services. Lindsey Williams was instrumental in co-ordinating the whole day, resulting in its overwhelming success.
The total raised was £2,800 and the cheque was presented to Simon Locke a trustee of the JLF Foundation.
Simon said “We are extremely grateful to the team at Pontarddulais Fire Station and all the people who gave up their free time to stage such a wonderful event. The community of Pontarddulais and surrounding areas have been incredibly generous and I’m truly amazed by the money raised. It really does go a long way to helping the JLF deliver the services we provide.”
