At the Jac Lewis Foundation, we believe in the power of nature to uplift, restore, and bring people together. That’s why we host our Well-being in Nature Group for Over 55s on the last Friday of every month at the beautiful Llyn Llech Owain Country Park in Gorslas.
A Place to Connect with Nature and Each Other
From 2pm to 4pm, we gather at the Discovery Tower, a stunning location overlooking the peaceful lake at the heart of the park. The area is a haven for wildlife and features a rare peat bog, which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). With heathland, broadleaved woodland, and accessible walking paths, the park provides the perfect setting to unwind, reflect, and connect with others in a supportive and friendly environment.
A Glimpse into Our Last Meet-Up
Our most recent session on Friday, 28th February, was extra special as we celebrated St David’s Day a little early! Beth and our wonderful volunteers dressed up in traditional Welsh costumes, setting the scene for an afternoon filled with Welsh folklore storytelling and coal mining tales.
The group also got creative, coming together to write a poem about what Wales means to them.
Here’s what they came up with:
Wales to Me
Wales is the land of hope it really is the best
It beats any place I’ve lived , and it’s the place I want to rest
The old men’s faces full of expression
The Cold, the damp, the exhaustion the depression
Rolling hills, mines filled with coal
The danger they faced as they head down the hole
Picking away, dust all around
Make a living to earn that pound
Accident, illness, pale faced everyday
We just take a moment for those lost, we do pray
Our lovely beaches stretch far and wide
Lots of sheep walking side by side
Its rugged windswept coastline
The language that goes back in time
Land of my fathers, rugby, passion for song is so fine
The miners faces black with dust, families waiting, their return is a must!
“Cadence “of the language that reflects the valleys
The stubborn humanity of the people, how will it tally ?
How many speak the language, the humour is second to none
To be living here, for me ,I feel I have won.
