On Saturday 18th May, a brave mother-and-daughter duo from Cwmgwili are preparing to take on an unforgettable challenge — all in aid of the Jac Lewis Foundation.
Marie and Alice Watkins, a well-known local family behind the much-loved Cwmcerrig Farm Shop and Grill in Gorslas, are skydiving from a staggering 10,000 feet to raise vital funds for the Foundation. Their tandem skydive, organised through GoSkydive Swansea, will see them hurtling through the sky at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour during the freefall — a thrilling and heart-racing way to support a cause close to their hearts.
The jump is a special way for the pair to mark two milestone birthdays — Marie’s 50th and Alice’s 30th — while making a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing across Ammanford and South West Wales.
A Personal Connection to the Cause
Marie is no stranger to charitable work. As an active supporter of the Miss Beauty UK pageant — a platform that champions diversity, mental health awareness and hardship support — she was instrumental in putting the Jac Lewis Foundation forward as one of the event’s chosen charities.
Following an incident at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, the Jac Lewis Foundation was on the ground, providing compassionate, professional support to young people and families in the community. Marie witnessed first-hand the difference that immediate, accessible mental health support can make — and it’s this experience that inspired her and Alice to take to the skies in aid of the cause.
Supporting a Lifeline in the Community
All funds raised will go towards the Foundation’s work in providing preventative mental health and wellbeing support to the local community. Delivered by professionally qualified counsellors and wellbeing advisors, the service is designed to be there before things reach crisis point — offering a safe space, guidance and hope when people need it most.
Whether it’s a chat, counselling session or wellbeing activity, every penny raised through Marie and Alice’s skydiving adventure will help the Jac Lewis Foundation reach more people and expand its life-changing support.
