Stress Awareness Month 2025: Understanding and Managing Stress

Every April, Stress Awareness Month shines a light on the impact of stress and the importance of managing it effectively. Since 1992, this annual event has encouraged people to recognise stress, understand its causes, and adopt healthier coping strategies.

At the Jac Lewis Foundation, we are dedicated to supporting mental health and wellbeing in Ammanford and South West Wales, and we’re proud to be part of this important campaign.

Understanding Stress and Why It Matters

Stress is a natural response to life’s demands, but when left unchecked, it can take a serious toll on both physical and mental health. Persistent stress can contribute to anxiety, depression, sleep issues, and even physical illnesses such as high blood pressure and heart disease.

Yet, stress is something that can be managed with the right tools and support. That’s why Stress Awareness Month plays such a vital role in helping individuals, workplaces, and communities take action to reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing.

How to Manage Stress Effectively

Small, positive actions can have a huge impact on reducing stress and improving mental health. Here are a few ways to take control of stress this April:

  • Take time for self-care – Whether it’s a short walk, mindfulness, reading a book, or listening to music, prioritising activities that help you relax can make a big difference.
  • Talk about it – Speaking to a friend, family member, or professional can help ease stress and provide valuable support when facing challenges.
  • Stay active – Regular physical activity, even something as simple as a daily walk, can significantly reduce stress levels and boost overall wellbeing.
  • Get enough rest – Good sleep hygiene, such as maintaining a consistent bedtime and limiting screen time before bed, can help the mind and body recover from daily stressors.
  • Stay connected – Spending time with loved ones and engaging in community activities can provide a strong support network that helps in times of stress.

You’re Not Alone – Support is Available

There are also some practical tools available online to help you better understand and manage stress. The Stress Management Society’s UK website offers a variety of supportive resources, including tips, guides, and self-help techniques designed to help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

At the Jac Lewis Foundation, we’re here to help anyone struggling with stress or mental health challenges. Our services are free and confidential, offering support to individuals across South West Wales.

If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out and contact us. Whether it’s counselling, community programmes, or simply advice on managing stress, we are here to support you every step of the way.
